Walton Ranch  Bird Hunting Rules & Reminders

​Walton Ranch Bird Hunting provides guided and self-guided upland bird hunts in Texas with a strong focus on safety, ethical hunting, and quality field experiences. Please review all hunting rules, bird limits, waiver requirements, and seasonal reminders before your hunt.

Disclaimers and Reminders

  • Our staff & guides have the right to cancel any hunt that is not being safe or breaking the set rules.​
  • Guides must be informed of any hunters that might have minimal experience.
  • Tuesday - Thursday, self- guided hunters (member or non-member) are required to hunt a minimum of 1 limit of birds.
  • Friday - Sunday, self- guided hunters (member or non-member) are required to hunt a minimum of 2 limits of birds.
  • The day of your hunt, Members will still owe for guide fees, bird cleaning, and any items added to your hunt.
  • Donated Hunts are only valid between October and January 31st
  • Hunts canceled between 72 hours - 24 hours will result in a cancellation fee.
  • Hunts canceled less than 24 hours in advance will require the full cost of the hunt to be paid.
  • Additional Guide fees will be applied to non-member hunts when booking more than 1 limit of birds per shooter.
  • If there are birds remaining on your membership at the end of the season, a small roll over fee can be paid to apply them onto the next seasons membership.

Rules & Requirements

  • All Hunters must have a valid Texas Hunting License with an Upland Game Bird Endorsement as well as a valid photo ID.
  • Out of State Hunters are require to have a special banded bird license.
  • Underage hunters are required to have taken and passed the Texas Hunter Safety course.
  • All shooters are required to have a moderate level of shotgun shooting and hunting experience.
  • Shotguns are the only firearms permitted.
  • Each hunter is required to wear some form of safety orange (hat / vest / shirt), hearing protection and eye protection.
  • Alcohol consumption is not permitted before or during your hunt. 

Additional Information

  • For Morning Hunts, we ask hunters to be at the camp house by 8:00am.
  • For Afternoon Hunts, we ask hunters to be at the camp house by 12:00pm.
  • The following is provided: Water / Coffee / Tea / Lemonade / Ice for coolers.
  • The following is NOT provided: guns / ammo / blaze orange / ear protection / eye protection / coolers / hunting license.

Our Personal Recommendations

  • Ammo: we advise using a #7.5 or higher shot size for all guns
  • Shotguns: Over under and Side by Sides are preferred
  • Gauge: 20 gauge and 28 gauge is ideal for Upland Hunting
  • Chokes for Guns: Improved or Modified
  • In the field: a bird vest or bird belt for being able to hold your ammo.
  • Comfortable Hiking shoes or boots

Self- Guided Rules / Reminders / Bird Limit Options

Booking / Reservation Minimums & Reminders
  • Tuesday through Thursday: Self-Guided Hunters (both member & non-member) are required to reserve a minimum of 1 bird limit (see limits below).
  • Friday through Sunday: Self-Guided Hunters (both member & non-member) are required to reserve a minimum of 2 bird limits (see limits below).
  • Regrettably, we are not optimally equipped for hunters engaged in dog training. Our primary focus is providing a complete hunting experience (with a minimum of 2 bird limits), due to the high demand and resources during season at this time.

Guest Fees
  • For Members: a $75 Guest fee will be added to your hunt for any NON-Family members who join
  • For Non-Members: a $75 Guest fee will be applied to each person beyond the allowed bird limit per person. For Example: If you book a hunt for 2 quail limits (which covers 2 hunters), but 3 hunters participate, an additional $75 will be added.

Bird Limit Options (EACH is Considered ONE Bird Limit)
  • Option 1. - 12 Quail Limit
  • Option 2. - 8 Chukar
  • Option 3. - 6 Pheasant 
  • Option 4. - 6 Quail + 3 Pheasant
  • Option 5. - 6 Quail + 4 Chukar
  • Option 6. - 3 Pheasant + 4 Chukar Limit
  • Option 7. - 6 Quail + 2 Chukar + 2 Pheasant
